Field of the Year: Hill City Howlers City Stadium

City Stadium in Lynchburg, home of the newly named Hill City Howlers, was the recipient of the 2025 VSFMA Professional Sports Facility Field of the Year Award. Logan Arthur, Sports Turf Manager, shared a few words about this win.

What are you most proud of with this win, and/or what do you think stands out most about your winning field?
The process with my crew, through the challenges the field faced last season, being able to see our work to the field. To be able to see it bounce back and improve throughout the year.
What are the biggest challenges you have faced with the winning field and how have you approached those challenges?
We had winter kill and had to resod some areas, roughly 2500 sq ft worth. Big one we set out to correct was leveling back out some areas with topdressing. Lastly I would say, crew wise some were first timers and some had been here the previous year but just getting everyone on the same page, and set our standard on what is expected.
How has your career benefited from being a member of VSFMA?
The friendships, being able to reach out to multiple people when you're in a pinch is extremely helpful. I'd also say being able to see how others approach the process, being able to learn from that.
